The Sept. 11 anniversary is upon us, and it is never easy to help our family comprehend the tragic events of that day. And with this year being the 9/11 20th anniversary, there are a variety of commemorative events and memorials in Rockland County where you and your family can pay tribute and remember the lives lost. Whether it is offering a moment of silence, a place for peace and prayer, or an opportunity to give back, you will find a variety of places throughout Rockland County and in nearby New Jersey for you and your kids to visit around the Sept. 11 anniversary. You can also head into the city to visit the 9/11 Memorial & Museum to teach your kids more about the events of the day and spend some time reflecting at the memorial.

Remembering September 11th
WHEN:
Sept. 7-13, Monday-Thursday, 10am-8pm; Friday, 10am-6pm; Saturday, 10am-3pm; ?Sunday, 12-4pm
WHERE: Nyack Library, 59 South Broadway, Nyack
WHAT:  The Nyack Library will host the exhibition, September 11th, 2001, The Day that Changed the World. On Sept. 10, it will show "Anniversary in School," a webinar presented by the 9/11 Memorial Museum, ongoing throughout the day.

9/11 Remembrance Ceremony
WHEN:

WHERE: Town of Clarkstown Town Hall, 10 Maple Ave., New City
WHAT: Join the Town of Clarkstown for its annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony to reflect 20 years later

September 11 Memorial Service
WHEN:
Saturday, Sept. 11, 5:30pm
WHERE: Town of Orangetown, 26 W Orangeburg Road, Orangeburg
WHAT: The Town of Orangetown will hold a ceremony on the front lawn at Town Hall to remember those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001 and also honor those who have passed away from 9/11-related illnesses.

September 11 Memorial Service

Saturday, Sept. 11, 7pm
WHERE: Stony Point Town Hall, 74 E Main St., Stony Point
WHAT: The Town of Stony Point will be holding its annual candlelight memorial service to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks. This service provides a time and a place to honor the memories of those who are no longer with us.

September 11th Patriot Day Ceremony
WHEN:
Saturday, Sept. 11, 6pm
WHERE: Orange County Arboretum, 211 NY-416, Montgomery
WHAT: The September 11th Patriot Day ceremony will be held at the Orange County Arboretum at Thomas Bull Memorial Park. The event honors the memory of the 44 Orange County residents who lost their lives during the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

September 11 Anniversary Tributes in New Jersey

Annual 9/11 Candlelight Ceremony
WHEN:
Saturday, Sept. 11, 7:30pm
WHERE: Westwood Train Station, 365 Broadway, Westwood, NJ  
WHAT: Westwood will hold its annual 9/11 Candlelight Ceremony with a few special additions to commemorate the 20th Anniversary. In keeping with the tradition that began two days after the tragic event in 2001, it is a solemn ceremony, beginning with the opening prayer by a local Clergy, the Pledge of Allegiance, and our National Anthem. The Westwood Volunteer Fire Department Color Guard will be in attendance, along with other members of the department.  A number of songs will be played allowing people to reflect about what happened that fateful day and all the lives that were lost. Special recognition will be given to the four Westwood residents who lost their lives at the World Trade Center on that day; Daphne Pouletsos, Michael Wholey, Francis Riccardelli and Kalyan Sarkar. In addition, Sgt. Chris Hrbek, USMC, killed in action in Afghanistan will also be recognized.

September 11th Memorial Service

WHERE: Pequannock Township Town Hall, 530 Newark Pompton Turnpike, Pompton Plains, NJ
WHAT: Pequannock UNICO will present its annual remembrance ceremony in the parking lot of the Pequannock Township municipal building.? Take part in this solemn tribute to the victims and first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice 20 years ago on this day.
