The Greenburgh Nature Center is a 33-acre woodland preserve with trails, a pond, gardens, outdoor animal exhibits, including a birds of prey aviary and a barnyard, greenroof and water catchment demonstration areas, and an organic garden. Our indoor exhibits include a live animal museum with over 100 specimens, exhibit areas focusing on nature and the environment, a greenhouse with botanical exhibits, and a gift shop. We offer special programs for groups of all ages on a wide range of environmental topics, camps, adult programs, and birthday parties, either here or at your location. We also have volunteering programs for adults and students ages 14 and older.
During the past year, the Nature Center proudly served over 70,000 people of all ages and backgrounds from Westchester and the New York metropolitan area; presented nearly 1,500 scheduled environmental education programs to urban and suburban elementary school, middle school and high school students, nonprofit organizations and after-school groups, families and intergenerational groups, reaching over 25,000 students; offered adult environmental educational programs on a range of topics; and ensured that each participant was provided with memorable, highly engaging experiences. These and other accomplishments were recognized by Westchester Magazine when it named the Greenburgh Nature Center "Westchester's Best of the Decade Place for Kids."
The Center remains a vital leader in nature and environmental education, dedicated to igniting a lasting desire to preserve and protect the natural world. Our goal is to continue to create a great green future full of outstanding experiences for our community that will inspire its citizens to connect with one another and the natural world on which we all depend.
The Greenburgh Nature Center was formed in 1975 and has been a leader in environmental education ever since. We are an independent non-profit organization, located on parkland owned by the Town of Greenburgh. Our mission is to educate and to promote conservation, research and appreciation of nature and the environment while preserving the natural and historic character of our property. We are located in the busy commercial corridor of Central Park Avenue in Scarsdale, NY. The Nature Center is funded by membership, earned revenue, government and foundation grants, business sponsorships, and in part by the Town of Greenburgh.
The Greenburgh Nature Center is located at 99 Dromore Road, off Central Park Avenue, in Scarsdale, NY. Parking is free, and handicapped parking is available. The Nature Center's grounds are open daily dawn to dusk throughout the year. The Center's indoor exhibits are open daily except Fridays and a few holidays, 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on weekends.
