New York Botanical Garden Launches NYBG at Home Educational Hub

New York Botanical Garden Launches NYBG at Home Educational Hub

While we can't visit the New York Botanical Garden in person, these free, plant-based activities and lessons will immerse you and your family in the nature education NYBG has to offer.

The New York Botanical Garden released NYBG at Home for Kids & Families, an online compilation of its educational resources, so parents can supplement their kids’ at-home learning with plant-based activities, recipes, videos, lessons and more from NYBG. These resources are designed to show kids the world of plants through short how-to video projects and experiments, downloadable activities for kids of all ages, guides for seasonal plant explorations, and instructions for creating a home garden.

These resources were compiled by staff at NYGB’s Everett Children’s Adventure Garden, which encourages kids to explore nature through investigation. The adventure garden’s Edible Academy helps kids develop a lifelong influence in gardening, nutrition, and environmental stewardship through growing and preparing fruits, vegetables, and herbs. The recipes provided on the online portal are from Edible Academy, so your family can get a taste of its programming from your own kitchen.

NYBG will be closed until further notice, but its “virtual gates are wide open.” You can access all resources for kids by going to the NYBG at Home for Kids & Families site, and access adult education online classes and virtual tours of NYBG’s spring gardens through the NYBG at Home site. Educators can find lesson plans to supplement their virtual teaching in the NYBG at Home repertoire as well. For more information, head to the garden’s “virtual gates”!
