Epiphany Community Nursery School's New Curriculum Includes New Classes for Parents and Children

Get excited for classes like parkour, chess, and Open Play.

The Epiphany Community Nursery School’s new curriculum, titled ECNS Etc., has introduced brand new Open Play classes and Baby Mixer classes for children and their parents.

The classes encourage unstructured playtime in the school’s 2100 sq. ft. gymnasium. According to Marketing Manager Lily Potter, six different time slots for Open Play have been added for the summer. Each class can hold up to eight kids.

“The reason for different classes is to keep classes smaller,” Potter says. “They don’t get to explore the space as much [in larger groups].”

Potter says that Wendy Levey, head of the school, created ECNS Etc., which began in January 2018, replacing the school’s old program. Levey felt that the program should have the same philosophy as the school, which is that there is fluidity to learning and that students build on skills such as separation and independence from parents.

“We want to have fun different classes you may not be able to find elsewhere,” Potter says, mentioning that ECNS also offers classes such as parkour, chess, and Lego. New summer classes have also been added, including toddler gymnastics and mommy-and-me gym classes for children 3 years old or younger.

“We want to make it worthwhile and we’re always open to suggestions from parents,” Potter says, noting that the parkour class was recommended by a parent. In addition, ECNS hopes to introduce a yoga class for parents and their children, Me and My Bean Yoga.

There is still time to sign up for Epiphany Community Nursery School’s ‘Summer Days’ Camp, which is running now through August. In addition, the nursery hosts birthday parties. More information about party bookings and summer camp can be accessed through their website.

Epiphany Community Nursery School is located in a 4-story carriage house at 510 E. 74th St. For more information, call 212-737-2977, email [email protected], or visit the Epiphany Community Nursery School’s website.
