Students of Academy of Holy Angels Inducted into Musical Honor Society

Twelve ladies from AHA are now members of Tri-M.

Several of the finest vocalists and instrumental musicians from the Academy of the Holy Angels are now members of Tri-M, the Modern Music Masters Honor Society. In addition to their musical accomplishments, eligible Tri-M members must also demonstrate scholarship, character, leadership, and service to others.

This spring’s inductees to Chapter 2150 include Jennifer “Jenna” Cooperman of Tappan, Annabel Hazrati of Little Ferry, Sophia Kim of Westwood, Chelsie Lim of Cresskill, Emily McKiernan of Harrington Park, Judianne Meredith of River Vale, Morgan Morrissey of Saddle River, Anjianie Perez of Hackensack, Mary Quimbo of Woodcliff Lake, Victoria Sanabria of West New York, Samantha Shah of Demarest, and Valentina Zazzali of Saddle River.

Sponsored by the National Association for Music Educators, Tri-M recognizes young musicians and strives to produce leaders in music education and advocacy. AHA instrumental music director and Tri-M Chapter 2150 adviser Mariann Annecchino encourages Tri-M members to promote music at school and in the greater community. AHA’s group has proven to be one of the most active chapters in the area. Students have organized outreach concerts at multiple venues and recently raised funds for a nonprofit that purchases instruments for young musicians who cannot afford to purchase or rent their own.

Annecchino acknowledged the inductees’ hard work, adding, “I am grateful there are so many wonderful musicians in our school.”

Tri-M Co-presidents Maria Guyre and Maya Sharma delivered a brief speech. Sharma spoke of the organization’s high ideals that encourage members to undertake greater challenges while stressing kindness to others. Guyre pointed out that Tri-M is always accepting the next wave of young musicians. This eternally young membership, she said, ensures that the group will always be “modern.” Guyre urged the new inductees to accept their responsibilities and wear the Tri-M emblem with pride.

The ceremony included performances by each inductee. AHA Choral Director Lisa Marciano provided accompaniment for several artists.

Vocalists Judianne Meredith presented Parisotti’s Se Tu M’ami, Victoria Sanabria sang Schubert’s Ave Maria, Valentina Zazzali performed Giordano’s Caro Mio Ben, and Jenna Cooperman sang Gilbert and Sullivan’s O, Foolish Fay. Senior Emily McKiernan sang Laurie’s Song, Aaron Copland’s piece about a young woman who is one day away from high school graduation and wonders what she will do next.

Annabel Hazrati rang out For the Beauty of the Earth on the handbells, and Chelsie Lim presented the energetic Elfentanz on the cello.

Violinists Morgan Morrissey and Samantha Shah performed Amazing Grace and the first movement of Bach’s Sonata no. 1 in G minor, respectively.

Featured pianists included Sophia Kim, Anjianie Perez, and Mary Quimbo. Kim played Chopin’s Waltz in B minor, op. 69, no. 2, Perez performed Einaudi’s Primavera, and Quimbo concluded the concert with Ravel’s Sonatine: Modere.
