Young members of the Boys and Girls Club of Northern Westchester learned how to play tennis from local tennis professionals at "Bounce" Tennis Play Day.

Girls Play TennisMore than 300 young members of the Boys and Girls Club of Northern Westchester learned the basics of tennis from local pros at a “Bounce” Tennis Play Day held last month. The volunteer instructors hailed from the Saw Mill Club as well as the Horace Greeley High School varsity tennis team, and the participating kids used nets, racquets, and balls on loan from the United States Tennis Association Eastern.

The event kicked off a new tennis program at the Boys & Girls Club organized by Chappaqua resident and Horace Greeley High School student Zachary Jayson. The program will give children at the club the opportunity to learn the sport for the first time.

“Many recreational programs do not offer tennis,” says Barbara Cutri, program director for the club. “We are always looking to expand our offerings and share a wide variety of sports with children in our community.”

Jayson is the second member in his family to introduce new programming to the Boys and Girls Club. In 2006, his older brother Matt Jayson worked with BGCNW to form a soccer program called Score Goals. That year-round program began with 30 children and has grown to serve 300 children.
