On The Blogroll: New York Mom

The NYMetroParents blogroll features the best blogs in the parenting world, from New York and beyond. Here's a closer look at why we love these mom bloggers and dad bloggers and how they're shaping the web for parenting today.

Blogging From: Westchester, NY

Maria Calaco, choreographer, dancer, actor, and New York mom, has an evident passion for the realm of social media. Touring with her dance company, choreographing for film, web, and theatre, and serving as Artistic Director of NYC dance company, MariaCalacoDance, Calaco is a woman of many talents! Despite her wildly successful career in dance and choreography, she makes time for her blog, The: New York Mom, and also works with several businesses and brands on executing successful creative media campaigns, specifically in the social media realm. Maria is also a freelance beauty and fashion trend writer for publications like CBS New York and Westchester Magazine.

Her husband, Matt, her daughter, Lily, and her St. Bernard, Jonah, are the components that Calaco says “make her busy life complete.” The family is also expecting a new addition, a boy, to arrive in November, Calaco shares with her blog-readers. I’m certain that there will be plenty of interesting New York Mom stories to read once the new baby is here. For now, Calaco’s blog focuses on how to maintain a social life in the fast lane while remaining active as a parent, focusing on a broad variety of issues from the Presidential election to Fashion Week, and then her latest, How-To Make Baby Onesies.

Using her creative spirit and her experiences from moving to the Big Apple all the way from India, Calaco uses her blog to inform readers of step-by-step DIY projects, ways to make money and find jobs in the city, product reviews and giveaways, and fashion and beauty tips. Proving helpful to New York City moms as well as fashionistas, Calaco’s blog has become a city guide for New York City newcomers and locals alike. MomTalk and MomCouncil for AOL PATCH and working with SocialMoms and Clever Girl Collectives, Calaco knows her stuff and is very present, and rightfully so, in the world of New York mommies. — Kara Faulk
