March is maple sugaring time in the Northeast! We've rounded up the top 12 maple sugaring events happening in Westchester County this month, each affordable and full of family fun. Tap a tree, boil down your maple sugar into maple syrup, and enjoy this sweet creation over a short stack of steaming boy tapping tree for maple sugarpancakes--what better way to welcome spring?
Note: Seating for all breakfast/brunch events is limited, so register early.

Bedford Corners

Due to popular demand, Westmoreland Sanctuary’s Sugarfest 2012 will be held over two days this year (March 10-11). First, enjoy an all-you-can-eat homemade Pancake Feast, then join the Maple Sugaring Through the Ages program to explore changes in maple syrup harvesting and processing techniques, from colonial times to present day.

Carmel

Visit the Green Chimneys Clearpool Education Center for Maple Sugaring & Pancake Breakfast. Watch a demonstration of the sugaring process, sit down to a hearty breakfast, then enjoy outdoor activities and crafts.

Katonah

Muscoot Farm offers two free Maple Sugaring Days (March 4 and 11), when visitors can spend an afternoon finding out all there is to know about making maple syrup.

Later in the month, enjoy one of the farm’s Sugaring-Off Pancake Breakfasts (March 17-18) when farm staff and the New York Maple Sugar Association will join visitors to enjoy pancakes with real maple syrup.

Ossining

There’s a lot going on at Teatown Lake Reservation this mont. If you’re up for tapping your own tree, you can Rent-a-Bucket and hang it to collect sap (through March 16). Once the bucket’s full, bring it to the sugar house to turn your sap to syrup.

Head back to Teatown March 17 for a classic Pancake Brunch (seatings at 8:30am, 9:45am, 11am, and 12:15pm).

Teatown will also hold two Maple Sugaring Days this month (March 4 and 11), when naturalists will share facts and folklore, from tapping to collecting and boiling to bottling. 1pm, 2pm, and 3pm. $5. Call to make a reservation.

Scarsdale

Celebrate the end of winter, when the warming daytime temperatures encourage the sap to flow, at Greenburgh Nature Center’s Maple Sugaring Party (March 11). The day will include Native American and Colonial-style sugaring sites, crafts, and candy and ice-cream making.
