CELEBRATE THE CHINESE LUNAR NEW YEAR AT THE PELHAM ART CENTER

This February, the center celebrates the Chinese Lunar New Year with paper craft workshops that honor the Year of the Rabbit. The center will also host a new art exhibit, "Curious Exploration," starting February 4.

The Art of Celebration

The Pelham Art Center has been weaving culture and art into the consciousness of the community for more than 40 years through its public gallery exhibits and affordable and free art classes. This month, the center celebrates the Chinese Lunar New Year with paper craft workshops that honor the Year of the Rabbit. The Chinese have been creating paper crafts in honor of the 12 zodiac animals for thousands of years.

Starting February 4 and running through April 2, the center will also host Curious Exploration. The exhibit will showcase art created through the use of digital media, mechanical forms, and electrical tools. Curated by Chris Kaczmarek of SUNY Purchase, the show engages its audiences by pushing the boundaries of traditional art and the human imagination.

The Pelham Art Center is a non-profit community art center and has become a resource for art and culture. It originated in 1969 as the Pelham Art Happening, a free, two-day art festival created by the members of the Pelham Junior League of Artists. It has since grown to serve over 16,000 local residents of all ages with year-round art programs. In 1986, the Pelham Art Center moved to its present 5,000-square-foot facility. In addition to its gallery exhibits and workshops, the center offers hundreds of art classes and outreach programs throughout the year.
